We advise our clients that it is never too early to start planning for retirement as it always sensible to try to plan ahead as far as possible.

The UK Government have published a guide on their website – Plan your retirement income step by step.

Plan your retirement income: step by step – GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)

This gives useful information about the State Pension – such as what age you can claim this, how to check how much you will be entitled to and how you can potentially increase this amount by making voluntary National Insurance contributions.

There are also sections covering other pensions that you may be entitled to such as a workplace or personal pension and how to find the contact details for any lost pensions.

There is also information on what financial assistance you could get if you are on a low income, or need help with paying your rent and heating bills or if you are disabled.

The information in this blog provides only an overview of HMRC guidance and legislation in force at the date of publication and no action should be taken without consulting the detailed HMRC guidance and legislation or seeking professional advice.  Therefore no responsibility for loss occasioned by any person acting or refraining from action as a result of the material contained in this blog can be accepted by the firm.
