Old Dog – New Tricks
Well here I am, proving that you definitely can teach an old dog new tricks!
I started working at Johnston Smillie in September 2019 where, along with providing admin support to the team, they very bravely gave me the task of marketing. I am definitely what you would call anti- social or should that read ANTI social media!!
Why, is the question I often ask myself, do people want to share their lives with the world? Does the classmate you haven’t seen or been in touch with for many years really care about what you’re having for dinner or want to see a FAKE picture of how great you look now? Let’s face it, most of the profile pictures on Facebook definitely do not resemble how these people really look.
Now the arranging of events is something I have had experience of before but putting posts (I thought this was something the Royal Mail dealt with!) on Social Media was completely alien to me. Both my son and daughter found my new role hilarious because you see, I don’t “do” Facebook or Twitter personally. I have a LinkedIn page, but only because this was required for my last job. I didn’t know what I was meant to do with it and, unusually, I only use my mobile phone for messages or making calls!
Anyway, getting back to Social Media. I was very lucky to have the help of my predecessor and some of my other colleagues. I am slowly understanding all this knowledge sharing and I can now draft blogs, publish them, share them on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn and also add them to our monthly E-Newsletters. I hope you are impressed because I certainly am!! I now know what a Twitter handle is and how to use hashtags and retweet and am beginning to get a good feel for the type of posts people like to look at and interact with.
Now, If any of you would like some training on Social Media, I am sure that for a small fee (please speak to Lea or Ross!) I could fit in a couple of hours a week but I really must go as Mark Zuckerberg is on the line looking to recruit me!
