National Minimum/Living Wage Update from April 2024
From 1 April 2024 the National Minimum Wage (NMW) and National Living Wage (NLW) are due to increase.
The NLW currently applies to employees who are aged 23 and over. From 1 April 24 the NLW will include employees aged 21 and over.
Employees aged up to the age of 20 will continue to be entitled to receive the NMW applicable to their age.
The new rates are as follows:
From 1 April 2024
- Age 21 and over £11.44 per hour – NLW
- Age 18-20 – £8.60 per hour – NMW
- Under 18 – £6.40 per hour – NMW
- Apprentice – £6.40 per hour – NMW
Apprentices are entitled to the apprentice rate as long as they are under the age of 19 or aged 19 and over and in the first year of their apprenticeship.
Apprentices who are aged over 19 and over and who have completed the first year of their apprenticeship are entitled to the NMW based on their age.
