The longest mile!

Our annual charity fundraising drive for SMA Support, our chosen charity for Johnston Smillie for the second year, continues for two of our brave team with a mile long, open water swim in Loch Lomond this Summer.

Julie Hunter and Angie Harvey, together with their sisters, have signed up for this event with little experience of ever swimming outside a pool and not much experience even in a pool except on their holidays to cool down.

We would not normally look for people to support our events like this, but we are so proud of the girls putting their hands up for this and we feel that they are going way beyond their ‘comfort zone’ and definitely going the extra mile – no pun intended!

I think what started a while ago as a casual conversation has become a reality for Angie, Julie and the two Gill’s and as the date of 25^th August approaches, the training has intensified in Lochore.

Some of the comments that I have heard in the run up to this are:

“I have already been rescued once”        “well that was horrendous”

“I am no Michael Phelps”                            “we must be mad”

The girls have set up a just giving page and I would urge anyone who can, to support them by contributing and giving them the final push they need to complete this challenge and at the same time supporting a great charity that is very close to us at Johnston Smillie.
