The Digital Development Loan was created by the Scottish Government to provide loans to businesses who wish to improve their digital capabilities, digital capacity or the digital skills of their workforce. The loan is part of the Scottish Government’s drive to improve economic productivity.
Businesses can apply for a minimum loan of £5,000 up to a maximum of £100,000. The maximum repayment term for the loan is 60 months. The loan is interest free with no administration charges.
Applicants must be a SME business (company or Sole Trader), be based in Scotland and have been trading for at least 6 months.
The loan is also available to charities and third sector organisations provided that they are legally constituted as a company.
The type of expenditure that is eligible for a loan includes:-
- Hardware and software that increases the digital capacity and/or capability of the company
- Expenditure on new digital processes that speed up production or enable the company to access new markets
- Ecommerce Platform/Software Integration
- Expenditure on training (does not need to be an accredited qualification)
The loan will not fund:-
- Businesses or projects involved in betting or gambling
- Loans for the purchase of property for resale
