A team from Johnston Smillie are taking part in the Edinburgh Kiltwalk on 17 September 2017 on behalf of Spinal Muscular Atrophy Support UK, our chosen charity for 2017.
We will be wearing our kilts with pride as we raise funds for this charity which is very close to our hearts. Last year Craig, one of our client managers, discovered that his son Zac had this condition. As a result, Johnston Smillie just had to raise as much funds as they could.
Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) is a rare, genetically inherited neuromuscular condition, of which there are several distinct types. SMA causes progressive loss of movement and muscle weakness as a result of muscle wasting (atrophy). The condition may affect crawling and walking ability, arm, hand, head and neck movement, breathing and swallowing.
