The Johnston Smillie Charitable Trust held a fund raising quiz on 27 May 2022 at The Edinburgh Sports Club after an enforced break of two years due to the Coronavirus pandemic. Ross McKay opened the evening and welcomed everyone including our brilliant quiz master, Colin Cruikshank , and thanked everyone who had donated raffle prizes for their generosity.

We had a fantastic response this year with 15 teams entering the quiz.  The team names were very amusing and included Nicolson Numpties,  The Three Must-Get-Beers and Alastair, Risky Quizness, Krispy Team Doughnuts, Quiztina Aguileras, Lady & The Tramps, Young Lochend Squad, According to Google and Lost at the Interpath.

As always, Colin came up with some challenging and entertaining questions and the staff at the Edinburgh Sports Club made sure that we were all well fed and “watered”.  The winning team was We Can Make Your Johnston Smillie with Quiztina Aguileras coming second.

We finished by drawing the raffle and Lea Brash thanked everyone who had supported the evening, Colin for his quizzing expertise and Julie and the staff at The Edinburgh Sports Club for their catering and service throughout the night.

The total raised at the event was in excess of a staggering £3,000.

We are keen to let people know that The Johnston Smillie Charitable Trust is here to help, so please pass on our details to anyone who is involved with or knows of a charity or local club or organisation that needs assistance.  The club or organisation does not need to be a registered charity but we would look for there to be some form of governance in place.  Ideally, we are looking to support charities, clubs and organisations based in the Lothians, Fife, Borders and Central belt where any donation will make a  real difference.

To apply for funding please send an email to charity@jsca.co.uk and let us know what level of funding you require and what you would use this for.
