Employers should note that the PAYE electronic payment deadline for November 2025 falls on Saturday 22nd November. To ensure timely payment, action must be taken in advance.

When to Make the Payment

When a PAYE deadline falls on a weekend or bank holiday, HMRC expects the payment to clear into their account on the last working day before the deadline.

This means for November 2025 the payment must clear by Friday 21st November 2025, unless being paid by Faster Payment Service that guarantees same day transfer.

Avoiding Late Payment Penalties

It’s the employer’s responsibility to make sure PAYE payments are received by HMRC on time.  If your payment arrives late, employer’s may be charged interest or penalties, even if the delay was due to bank processing times.

To avoid this:

  • Check your banks cut-off times for electronic payments.
  • Be aware of single transaction limits, as these can impact how much you can send in one transaction.
  • Plan ahead to initiate your November payment early enough to clear by 21st

Tips for Smooth Payment Processing

  • Set a calendar reminder a few days before the 21st to review your payroll and set up your PAYE payment.
  • When making the payment always include your PAYE Accounts Office refence. This reference is sometimes also known as your Collector of Taxes reference, this ensures that HMRC allocates the payment correctly.
  • Consider paying by Direct Debit as this allows HMRC to automatically collect the correct amount each month. You can learn more about the set up process in our previous blog: Employers Can Now Pay Their PAYE to HMRC by Recurring Direct Debit – Johnston Smillie
