Maximise your well-being
In today’s society there is a recognition of the importance of good mental as well as physical health. It is widely acknowledged that physical and mental health are interlinked. If one is in bad shape it is likely the other is suffering too.
It is our own personal responsibility to manage our well-being. If we make good choices, good well-being usually follows. However, there is often conflict between our common sense and common practice i.e. Between sensible choices and what people often do.
The following are recognised healthy lifestyle guidelines:
– healthy eating – 5 to 7 portions of fruit and veg a day
– stay hydrated – drinking plenty water helps us stay focussed and removes toxins which can in turn reduce anxiety and stress
– get active – at least 30 minutes exercise 5 days a week is recommended
– get a good night’s sleep – let your bedroom be a sanctuary of peace and tranquillity with no TV or computer
– form and maintain strong connections – fostering great relationships helps keep us mentally balanced
– treat yourself like your best friend- self-care is vital.
This is not an exhaustive list, but it is a good start. It is not rocket science but we all too often need reminding about the importance of self-care. We only get one body, so it is important to take care of it! A healthy body and healthy mind result in a happier person. Let’s treat ourselves!
