HMRC have decided to retire the traditional method of making PAYE payments in favour of more modern alternatives. In April 2015 HMRC stopped automatically issuing payment booklets to new employers and as most employers now pay online, they have announced the booklet is set to be completely discontinued from 6 April 2024.
Employers are encouraged to make their PAYE payments through HMRC’s online platform Pay employers’ PAYE or directly through their business tax account and the employers PAYE.
HMRC advise that paying online is the quickest and most secure way to make sure your payment is received and processed.
Employers can still send a cheque by post but must include their Accounts Office Reference number on the back of the cheque.
