The Scottish Government has announced additional funding of £1m via the new Agricultural Transformation Programme. This will help farmers and crofters diversify into forestry and establish small-scale woodlands as a new source of income and provide shelter for stock and crops.  It will also assist in the fight against climate change.

This £1m of funding is in addition to the £500k of funding announced last week by Scottish Forestry to help farmers and crofters purchase forestry and timber processing equipment.

Both funds will be administered by Scottish Forestry.

  • Grants from the new £1m forestry diversification fund will cover up to 90% of the cost of establishing woodlands
  • Grants from the new £500k harvesting and processing fund will cover up to 40% of the costs of purchasing forestry and timber processing equipment or buildings

The Agricultural Transformation Programme will play a key part in helping Scotland meet its greenhouse gas emissions targets.
